New Music: Dan-E-O Immortal EP and Inevitable Album

@Daneo10 is an artist not to be slept on, if anything he is breathing life into Hip Hop with his recent releases of 'Immortal' EP and full-length album 'Inevitable'. The Emcee and actor born and raised in Toronto of Spanish and Jamaican descent, lives and breathes Hip Hop music since the age of 13, and the culture means so much to the veteran MC he even wrote a letter to confess his everlasting love in the 1996 classic Dear Hip Hop which launched Dan-E-O's career.

Although Dan-E-O's latest releases are solo projects, he meshes well with other artists, and has worked with many including Choclair, Maestro Fresh Wes, Rascalz, Wio-K, and Kardinal Offishall just to name a few....Collective projects are also notable in his work. One of the stand out groups coming out of Canada is Monolith - the group released the EP 'The Lone Awaited' in 1998; and currently Dan-E-O is working as part of a duo group partnering with fellow MC Promise, together known as Perfeck Strangers.

Toronto's Top 5 Hip Hop Radio Shows

Community radio has been from the very beginning - the driving force and outlet for urban music in Toronto, and more so, plays non-commercial music as a whole. To get access to the latest in the world of Hip Hop coming out south of the border in the U.S.A. in its raw form at the time, thousands of people across Canada and abroad tuned in (if they could pick up a signal) to hip hop shows supported by community radio stations, primarily based in University campuses within the Toronto area. The most prominent hip hop show launched in 1983 was aired on CKLN-FM 88.1 within Ryerson University  - was The Fantastic Voyage, hosted by Ron Nelson (@djronnelson)....The program aired every Saturday from 12p - 4p and is said 500,000 listeners tuned in each week.

NEW MUSIC: Lil' Kim - "Dead Gal Walking" + Lil' Kim's New Video "Looks Like Money"

@LilKim the 'Queen Bee' herself welcomed Halloween with the release of  "Dead Gal Walking" which has a dancehall and street vibes; and the 3 times platinum selling artist describes the track by saying "It's a very strong, serious record, but at the same time, feel-good....There's a lot of things that can turn you into a dead girl or dead man walking, and nobody wants to be that" she told MTV News, and adds "So, I guess my message is don't become a dead girl or dead man walking...Live your life right".

The track will be on Kim's upcoming mixtape which was push back and now Hard Core 2K13 is due out November 29th.

NEW MUSIC: Big Sean - Control (HOF) ft. Kendrick Lamar & Jay Electronica

IT'S ON! Some may have heard by now, the electrical current that has bored a hold in the hip hop musical landscape; that being MC #KendrickLamar, in what I would consider injecting one of the elements and essence of what it means to be an MC in hip hop culture. There is a lot of buzz coming from hip hop fans in social media, and hip hop artists alike surrounding Kendrick's featured verse on Big Sean's track 'Control' (HOF) which also features Jay Electronica. The track did not make it onto to Big Sean's latest album; but Hot 97 's Funkmaster Flex premiered the track yesterday and has since been all the talk. Why? KL is not only letting everyone know in his lyrics that he is the best, he telling his fellow comrades that he is stepping his game up and they need to do the same if the even want to compete! KL calls out names of other rappers on 'Control', not in a diss sense, but acknowledging the new school, naming J. Cole, Wale (who response in Rolling Out), A$AP Rocky, Drake, Meek Mill, Pusha T and others; knowing they are talented HOWEVER need to step-it-up because rapping about strip clubs - strippers and money ain't gonna cut it! Also, because the game is whacked up right now, Lamar went ahead and claimed not only the west coast, but New York City as well!

NEW MUSIC: Classified - 'Anything Goes' ft. Saukrates & Skratch Bastid

Hip Hop MC @Classified is still pushing out music for his fans and new ears, and here is a recent track along side Saukrates and Skratch Bastid "Anyting Goes". In an article with SOHH the Nova Scotian artist says..."There's a line in the song that says ["I love hip-hop, but f*ck rap."] I'm like an old school dude. I come from like '90s, raw hip-hop, whatever you want to call it...For me, hip-hop is the cause for the DJ, the MC, it's not just the rap aspect of everything. Rap is the Flo Ridas, the crossover stuff that just has nothing to do with hip-hop, it's just the rap aspect of it. To regular folks, hip-hop is rap, and I think my mind frame is different than the how regular person thinks nowadays." Wu-Tang’s GZA Merging Hip-Hop With Science In Schools

Gary Grice, aka The GZA is known by many as The Genius of the #WuTang Clan, despite ending his formal education in the 10th grade. While his lyrical contributions have proven him more than worthy of the title, he’s gone the extra mile to distinguish himself as a mind to be reckoned with.
According to The NY Times, GZA is teaming up with a Columbia University professor to make the sciences more appealing to school students using Hip-Hop. After doing research at M.I.T. for his upcoming album, 'Dark Matter' GZA met Dr. Christopher Emdin on a radio show and realized they had a shared desire to bridge the worlds of science and hip-hop. We're heard stories of how sampling musician music of the past, is stealing, disrespectful, or even has no business on a hip hop record; what we don't hear enough is how sampling has help these musicians financially and continues to breath life into existing masterpieces.

Public Enemy Hypes the Crowd at the Sound Academy

Sunday night veteran rappers #PublicEnemy performed in Toronto at the Sound Academy. The hip hop legends did not begin their set until well after 10:30pm (preceded by a DJ who spun fittingly old-school hip hop), but totally brought their A-games and gave the crowd its proverbial "money's worth," something Chuck D promised himself.

Funk Legend - Jimmy Castor, R.I.P.

Funk legend Jimmy Castor, who passed away January 16th, 2012 in Nevada from unknown causes. The creator of the immortal b-boy anthem “It’s Just Begun” as well as other much-sampled tracks like “Troglodyte” (watch the live performance above) Castor’s mix of funk and soul with spoken narratives and the Afro-latin elements he absorbed during his teenage years in Spanish Harlem have been identified by many rap historians as key ingredients in the early sound of hip-hop. Or as our own resident historian of the breaks tweeted yesterday: “B-boys in heaven are jammin. The creator of their national anthem has joined them. RIP Jimmy Castor. Essential Hip Hop Ingredient. Peace.” Castor was 64.

Classified - Unusual ft. Joe Budden

Luke Boyd is otherwise known as ‘Classified’ who is reppin’ Nova Scotia, Canada; just released a new music video for ‘Unusual’ featuring Joe Budden.

Background info on Classified >>>who is also a producer, joined forces with some of Canada's most prominent emcees, including Choclair and Maestro Fresh Wes.  He also teamed up with Shady Records recording artist, Royce Da 5'9" and opened for Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, The Game, Nelly, Nas, The Black Eyed Peas and Black Moon.
Classified is no stranger to hip hop and has contributed his craft since 1995. He released his 14^th album in 2011 which debuted at #7 on the Canadian Albums Chart, it includes the hot track ‘That Ain’t Classy’ that is also featured in the hit EA football game Madden 12.

Common Speaks on Drake Diss

For the first time since he first turned heads earlier this week with a pointed diss track about Drake, Common is speaking out about his budding feud with the Young Money star.

As we've previously reported, tension between Common and Drake first began when the Chicago veteran released his song "Sweet," which angrily dismisses "soft" rappers who sing. In an interview today with Sirius XM's Hip Hop Nation, Common said he decided to take things to the next level after Drake responded— first at a concert in Las Vegas, and then on Rick Ross's recent single "Stay Schemin.'"

"Once he said something back, that's when I was like 'Aight, I guess you wanna get in a battle with me, and if that's what you want, then I'll battle,'" Common said.

The hip hop mainstay maintains that "Sweet" wasn't specifically about Drake (though it's easy to see why many interpreted it that way), and said he's only been trying to speak up for a particular brand of hip hop that he feels has gone missing. He also dismissed the idea that the conflict is the result of both rappers being romantically linked to tennis star Serena Williams.

"My whole mentality was like 'Man, I'm doin this for hip hop music.' It wasn't about trying to bring nobody down," he said. "At the end of the day, I just expressed what I feel about hip hop and I'm gonna keep it on that level."
