The show will be hosted by actor and comedian Arsenio Hall who was a major player in promoting urban/ African American talent and boosted the careers of many, where other television outlets were selective 'picky' in doing so; especially the underground and misunderstood culture of Hip Hop music at the time, which was the main voice of the young black community. Arsenio extended invitation to these young voices and talents to use his platform, and millions tuned in nightly. The show was the go-to for entertainers to reach the MTV generation from 1989 to 1994.
During the show's run there were appearances by Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, Madonna, Mariah Carey which was her television debut, a then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton playing "Heartbreak Hotel" on his saxophone, Muppets creator Jim Henson was on the show 12 day before his death, many of the World Wrestling Federation - WWF stars, including Hulk Hogan, Rick Rude, and 'The Macho Man' Randy Savage (my favorite) and others made appearances, and Hall's personal friends like Eddie Murphy, Paula Abdul, and Andrew "Dice Clay" were semi-regular guests.
