Throwback Vid: Ginuwine - 'Pony' (1996)

Since he is coming to town, it's only fitting we take a look back at the 1996 massive hit by one of R&B's top artists during the late 1990s and early 2000s, Ginuwine. The platinum-selling singers career took flight when he began working with his main collaborators, hit-makers "Missy" Elloit and "Timbaland" Mosely through the 1990's.

The lead single "Pony" off Ginuwine's debut album 'Ginuwime....The Bachelor', is a edgy yet smooth, catchy song that was heard bumpin' in the jeeps, all over the air-waves and in the clubs in the latter months of 1996. Written by Ginuwine, Static Major and Timbaland who produced the start-stop rhythm pattern, and it can be credited as the jump-off to Timbo's successful producing career.

The sexy single peaked at number one on the Billboard  Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Track for two weeks and reached number six on Billboard's Hot 100. The song is featured in the soundtrack of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV, it also appears in the 2012 movie Magic Mike, and "Pony" is also sampled on Rihanna's track "Jump" from her latest album, Unapologetic.
